Video game console maker Nintendo Co. on Tuesday said wireless access company Wayport will provide Wi-Fi service at nearly 6,000 McDonald's restaurants in the United States for the video game console maker's handheld Nintendo DS.

Wi-Fi, short for wireless fidelity, provides high speed wireless access in small areas known as "hot spots." The pact with Wayport allows Nintendo to offer free access to its Wi-Fi NDS gaming service, which debuts Nov. 14, 2005.
